Biography
Guitar and music: a lifetime passion
Born in England, Antony Burton has spent decades refining a sound that sits at the crossroads of folk, rock, reggae and blues.
Now based in Isère in France, Antony writes, records and performs music that reflects both his British roots and his French adopted home. His songs carry the weight of lived experience delivered with a voice that is honest and warm, backed by guitar work that ranges from intimate fingerpicking to full-bodied strumming and heartfelt soloing. Whether performing alone at an intimate venue or heading into the studio to lay down new tracks, Antony brings the same commitment and passion.
His story in music began at 14 when he discovered the guitar which quickly became a passion. He then played in several bands in England. At the age of 21 he went to play his music in France, which has become his homeland to this day. In 1997 he left with the family to Sydney, Australia to study audio engineering at the SAE (School of Audio Engineering) and obtained, after 3 years, a Bachelor of Recording Arts degree in collaboration with the University of Middlesex (UK).
Following his studies in Australia, he landed a place in a Papeete studio in Tahiti. For 3 years he recorded Tahitian musicians: percussion, vocals, guitars, ukuleles — an experience he greatly appreciated. He played in several bands in Tahiti, one of which, The Guv'nors, became a well known rock band with songs like Don't Know Why and Teahupoo (acoustic versions on the album "All This Time") being played non-stop on the radio. In 2007 Antony came back to France and has played either solo or backed by other musicians till today. He has a home studio and spends his time playing, recording, mixing and mastering his songs. He also records and produces other artists.
